When Others Step Up

Long-term recovery from unexpected eye surgery last fall has left me, at least for the moment, unable to drive, especially at night. As an independent and active person in my 50s, not being able to get myself places has been a hard adjustment. Yet somehow, my network of nearby family and friends shows up to drive me whenever I need to get somewhere.

I’d prefer to be able to drive myself, if needed, but I’m so grateful others are willing to help me during such a challenging time. I’ll figure out how to return the favor at some point, but right now, I’m learning (with some difficulty!) to be on the receiving end.
