Just the right touch

At my annual physical this week, the doctor ordered routine blood tests. I dread it every year because my veins seem hard to access and the blood flows slowly into the vials.

I warned the tech that I never faint, but the sight of needles under my skin freaks me out. He said no problem, I’ll take care of you.

And he really did. This large, long-haired, tattoo-covered young guy could not have been more gentle and caring. He got the vein on the first stick and got five vials of blood in no time. I can’t remember when that last happened. I was so grateful for his bedside manner and ability.
