Going the extra mile

Teachers will do just about anything to support their students.

Virginia high school English teacher Kate Fletcher recently ran over 100 miles from Mineral, VA to Jamestown to raise college/trade school scholarship money for students, some of whom have sat in her classroom. She’s raised more than $120,000 over ten years in the annual fundraiser, but that’s not the only reason she runs.

By running over 20 hours at a time, she wants to show her students they can do anything they set their minds to – even when “they didn’t know they had it in them” – and that “people care about them.” Watch the whole school cheering her on!
